Women's Link presents the Gender Justice Uncovered Awards, which seek to identify the best and worst decisions or statements related to gender, made in English or in Spanish, within a judicial proceeding.
The winners of the Second Annual Gender Justice Uncovered 2010 Awards were announced on May 10, 2010, commemorating the historic decision that decriminalized abortion, making it a right for women in Colombia under certain circumstances.
A jury, made up of three renowned figures chose the Gavel and the Bludgeon decisions. The three most sexist decisions received the bronze, silver and gold Bludgeons; and the three decisions that best promote gender equality received bronze, silver and gold Gavels. In every country, regardless of its political system, culture or religion, what judges and courts say has a tremendous influence on the sense of justice and in the day to day lives of people. This is why we are looking for them!
The Awards highlight decisions or statements made in writing, in English, Portuguese or Spanish, by judges, courts, committees, administrative bodies, prosecutors, defense attorneys, ombudsman officers, UN Committees, asylum boards or any other actor within a legal case, which have a positive or negative impact on gender equality, including those related to sexual and reproductive rights, gender violence and gender discrimination.

Women's Link presenta los Premios Género y Justicia al Descubierto, que buscan identificar las mejores y peores decisiones o pronunciamientos hechos en español o inglés dentro de un proceso judicial, relacionados con la equidad de género.
El 10 de mayo de 2010 se entregaron, por segunda vez, los Premios Género y Justicia al Descubierto, conmemorando la decisión histórica que otorgó a las mujeres en Colombia el derecho a tener un aborto en tres circunstancias específicas.
Un jurado, conformado por tres reconocidas personalidades, seleccionó las decisiones “Garrote” y las decisiones “Mallete”. Las tres decisiones más sexistas recibirán Garrote de bronce, plata y oro y las tres decisiones que más hayan promovido la equidad de género, recibirán Mallete de bronce, plata y oro. En todos los países, sin importar su sistema político, cultura nacional o creencias religiosas, los comentarios de jueces o juezas, cortes y tribunales tienen una influencia enorme sobre el sentido de justicia y la vida diaria de todas las personas, por eso, ¡los estamos buscando!
Los premios destacan los pronunciamientos o decisiones hechos en cualquier juzgado, corte, comité, cuerpo administrativo, por jueces/zas, fiscales, defensores/as públicos/as, procuradores/as, defensores/as del pueblo, miembros de comités de las Naciones Unidas, magistrados/as o miembros de juntas de asilo, que hayan tenido un efecto positivo o negativo sobre la equidad de género, incluyendo aquellos relacionados con derechos sexuales y reproductivos, violencia de género y discriminación por género.
